Saying that James Turrell is “THE MAESTRO” of light, is not fare. It is right to say that he works with light, but I don’t think he just cares for light. I believe he really seeks for what light does to us, what the light makes us feel. It is not the same light in the Mediterranean, New York or New Delhi and each one of these natural lights, puts us in different moods. I know it is pretencious to say that he plays to be a small god, creating diferent lights and emotions, or maybe not.
Besides what light makes us feel he plays with our deep emotions and perceptions. When he works in large formats and he invades a room with his colors, it is not just an invation of the space, it is also the invation of your soul. It is incredible how he sculpts feelings with an immaterial thing. In some installations you feel as you were in an isolated future; in others, you feel like in the open air, and in others it is just a pleasant feeling that warms your heart.
I would love to have one of his works at home.
